Another child has absconded from the children's home in Co Wicklow which cared for 15-year-old Kim O'Donovan, who died of a suspected drugs overdose in Dublin on Thursday.
Her death occurred more than three weeks after she disappeared from the home.
Last night it emerged that a 16-year-old girl has been missing from Newtown House and the care of the South Western Area Health Board since Saturday.
The girl, who had been in care on foot of a High Court order for over two years, refused to return to Newtown House following a routine visit to her mother.
The South Western Area Health Board immediately notified the gardai.
"Photographs of the girl, a description of her and details of what she was wearing were given to the gardai by the board," a spokeswoman said.
"The health board and the gardai are working very closely together to locate the girl and return her to Newtown as soon as possible," she said.
"We would ask the girl to make contact with us either at Newtown or with her own social workers or any of our emergency services. We would assure her that she will receive every help and sympathy," the spokeswoman added.
A Garda spokesperson last night confirmed the girl had been reported missing by the health board and said she had not yet been traced.
Meanwhile, gardai examining the circumstances surrounding the death of Kim O'Donovan in a Talbot Street B & B in Dublin city centre on Thursday morning are still awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish the cause of her death.
The girl had been in care at Newtown House and disappeared on July 28th while on a work placement. She had been missing for three weeks when her body was found.
Yesterday the Minister for Health and Children, Mr Martin, said a better system would be put in place to trace missing young people if this was necessary.
He has ordered reports from the gardai and the Eastern Regional Heath Authority on the steps taken to trace Kim O'Donovan when she disappeared and said if gaps emerged in their reports, they would be addressed.
Also on Saturday, two 16-year-old girls who had been missing from their homes in Cavan for over a week were found by gardai on foot patrol in the Parnell Square area of Dublin.
The girls, Mary O'Connor from John Paul Avenue, and Caroline Kelly from Wolfe Tone Street, have now been reunited with their families.
