The girl, known as Violeta or Arisiso, is believed to have been smuggled into the country as part of an arranged marriage with an 18-year old Romanian man. Gardaí believe she may be in the company of the man, who is also missing. They wish to speak to him in connection with the girl's disappearance.
The 12-year-old was taken into care last Friday after immigration officers located her at a house in Tallaght, west Dublin. The man being sought is also believed to have been resident at this house.
The South Western Area Health Board had secured an emergency care order for the child, but she walked out of Our Lady's Hospital at 9 a.m. on Tuesday after either making or receiving a phone call.
Violeta is 4ft 7in in height and of stocky build with dark hair and dark eyes. When last seen she was wearing a red ankle length velvet skirt, a red blouse, a head scarf and black sandals.
There are serious concerns for the girl's health and safetly, as she has a poor command of the English language and is young and vulnerable, according to Gardai.
Violeta got married to the man in a religious service in Romania last year.
