Galway gardaí are seeking the public's help in finding Mr David Hopkins (17) from John Coogan Park, Newcastle, Galway.He is missing since the 21st April, 2001.

Mr Hopkins left his home on Friday night, 20th April, and was last seen near theWestsideCommunity Centre, Galway, at about 2 a.m.

He is described as being five feet eight inches in height and of medium build, with short brown hair and green eyes.

When last seen he was wearing a heavy cream-coloured wool fleece jacket with a greenfleck, which was zipped at the neck and had a string tie on the bottom.He was also wearing beige/cream-coloured tracksuit bottoms with a black stripe down both sides and white Nike runners.He had a plain gold rope chain around his neck and two small sleeper earrings in his left ear and was wearing a gold ring witha black stone that had a Lion's head on the stone.

On the night he went missing, there was an incident at the Claddagh Basin, Galway City,where the River Corrib enters Galway Bay.

Three youths saw a person in the river and heard a cry for help. One of the youths undressed and made a rescue attempt but failed due to the strong currents.The emergencyservices were alerted.

But the three youths left the scene without being identified.The Garda are very anxious to speak with them about the person in the river, as that person has not been found. It is believed the youths took a taxi to the Salthill area after the emergency servicesarrived.
