Gardai are appealing for a man they believe may have vital information about the alleged rape of a teenage girl in a gay nightclub in Dublin city centre this month to come forward.

A 17-year-old student from the midlands claimed she was raped in a toilet in the George bar and bistro at around 3 a.m. on September 7th.

The man gardai want to interview was filmed on closed circuit television leaving the premises on South Great George's Street shortly before the alleged incident was reported to the Garda.

He was dressed in a light-coloured short-sleeved shirt and has short hair.

Supt Tom Conway of Pearse Street Garda Station said the man may have vital information in relation to the ongoing investigation.

"We are of the belief that he may have information because he was seen leaving the place at the time and we just want to talk to him," he said.

Supt Conway said up to 40 people have been interviewed in relation to the investigation, but no firm line of inquiry has yet been established.

It is understood the teenager had just arrived in Dublin and had spent the day of the incident looking for accommodation with a friend.

The George is popular with gays, although it is not exclusively a gay establishment.
