Gardaí investigating the shooting of a teenager in Inchicore in Dublin yesterday afternoon are appealing for witnesses to contact them at the incident room in Kilmainham Garda station.

They would particularly like to speak to anyone who was at Memorial Park at the rear of Liffey Gaels GAA clubhouse or at the cross-over pedestrian bridge on the N4 at about 3pm. They are also asking passing motorists who may have noticed anything suspicious in these areas to contact them.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting yesterday evening. He is being held at Kilmainham Garda station.

The 18-year-old victim was seriously wounded in the incident, which occurred at about 3pm. He was taken to St James's Hospital for treatment, where he is in a "critical but stable" condition, the Garda said.

The shooting occurred at the Irish National War Memorial Park near a GAA club off Con Colbert Road, Inchicore.

The injured man had just walked off a footbridge in the area onto the side of the road where the park is situated when he was approached by a number of men on foot. Several shots were discharged at him and he was wounded in the upper body and head.

Gardaí believe the teenager was targeted by a friend with whom he had recently been involved in a fist-fight.

Witnesses should contact Kilmainham Garda station on (01) 6669700, or the Garda Confidential Telephone Line, 1800 666 111.
