Gardaí have made a fresh appeal for information on two separate murders which have gone unsolved in Cork.

Kieran O'Flynn (39) died on June 7th, 2001, after a gunman fired four shots through the door of his house at Thorndale, Dublin Hill, in Cork. Mr O'Flynn was watching a film on TV called The Hitman when he heard a knock on the door. He went to see who was there and was shot dead by a gunman wearing a balaclava.

Kieran O'Flynn had served a prison sentence for importing cannabis resin. He was killed in front of his then 12-year-old daughter Kiara. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Cork's Mercy Hospital.

Gardaí believe two men were involved in the murder and that Mr O'Flynn was shot with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun or pistol. A number of people were arrested but no one had been charged, although the file on the killing remained open.

At Mr O'Flynn's inquest at Cork Coroner's Court on July 3rd last the jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing. Investigating officers at Watercourse Road Garda station in Cork would welcome any new information. It is thought members of the public may have some vital information which could solve the case.

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing for information in a bid to solve the murder of Kieran O'Flynn's brother-in-law Michael Crinnion who was shot in the doorway of the Clannad bar in Barrack Street, Cork, on April 8th, 1995.

Crinnion was killed by a professional assassin who shot him, execution-style, after he was lured out of a pub to take a phone call.

Crinnion - one of the most feared people in Cork's drugs underworld - died on the street and despite numerous arrests by gardaí no-one has ever been charged.

The investigation of the Crinnion killing is based in Barrack Street Garda station.
