A man was arrested by gardaí in Co Louth yesterday after they recovered one of the biggest hauls of counterfeit sports clothing in recent times.
Said to be of top quality, the haul consisted of football jerseys with the stripe of Manchester United, Liverpool, Celtic and Rangers.
All were boxed and ready to be sold. The total value was put at close to €1.2 million.
They were found in a raid on a warehouse at Carrickarnon, Dromad, just yards from the Border, by gardaí from Dundalk and the Garda anti-racketeering unit yesterday morning.
It came on foot of a lengthy investigation by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation in conjunction with the PSNI that was triggered by an anonymous tip-off to the Crimestoppers service. A man in his 50s was arrested and last evening still being detained in Dundalk Garda station under the Criminal Justice Act.
