Gardai seize €500,000 worth of drugs in Dublin

Two men have been arrested and are being questioned over the finds in the west of the city.

Heroin with a potential street value of up to €450,000 was recovered during a planned Garda raid on a house in Shancastle Crescent, Clondalkin, at around 7.30am this morning.

A 22-year-old man was arrested and is being quizzed by detectives at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 2, Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The search was carried out by detectives from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation with the help of local gardaí and the Garda Dog Unit.

Earlier Gardai arrested a 25-year-old man in Ballyfermot after recovering drugs with an estimated street value of €20,000.

The man — from the area — ran off when he was approached by uniformed officers patrolling First Avenue at around 3.40am.

The two gardai gave chase and the suspect threw a bag containing the drugs to the ground.

He was arrested a short distance away and was taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station. He is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, according to Sergeant Ronan Farrelly.
