Gardaí have seized a huge quantity of counterfeit goods this morning in north Co Louth.
The seizure was made during a planned search of two warehouses in the Dromad area, just south of the border with Co Armagh. Counterfeit sports clothing with an estimated value of up to €1.2 million has been seized.
The operation followed a lengthy investigation by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Police Service of Northern Ireland. It was triggered by an anonymous tip-off to the Crimestoppers service.
Local gardaí from Dromad and Dundalk Stations were also involved in this morning's raid.
A 50-year-old man from Newry, Co Down, was later arrested in connection with the seizure. He was held for questioning at Dundalk Garda Station under Section 4 of theCriminal Justice Act, where he can be held for a maximum of 12 hours.
The director of Crimestoppers, Mr Ciarán Conlon, said the find was the largest-ever seizure of counterfeit goods in the State.
"The guarantee of anonymity offered by the Crimestoppers service - and the possibility of cash rewards for useful information - continues to generate positive calls and new leads for gardaí to investigate," he said.
