Gardaí have seized three loaded firearms in a field on the outskirts of Limerick city.
The weapons including a sawn-off shotgun, a semi-automatic pistol, a rifle and a telescopic sight were found by a man walking his dog on Saturday morning.
They had been stashed in a ditch in a field in Drombana about three miles from Limerick city.
The area where the loaded weapons were found is close to the spot where the crime figure, Kieran Keane, was shot dead in 2003.
All the weapons have been sent for technical examination and gardai said yesterday that it was too early to say whether any of the guns could have been used in last week's murder of David Nunan.
The 25 year-old from O'Malley Park, Limerick, was shot in the back and his body was dumped in a lane in the village of Parteen in Co Clare.
The shooting marked the first murder investigation by gardai in the Limerick division in nearly 15 months.
