Gardaí based at Dromad Station Co Louth have left because the building is no longer suitable for their work and will now be relocated to Hackballscross, some 14 miles away.
Officers based at the station had wanted to remain in the area bit the upgrading of the main Dublin to Belfast road has seen the Garda buildings and adjoining lands purchased under compulsory order.
This order was issued three-years ago and gardaí based at the station are reported to be annoyed that an alternative building could not have been found nearer to Dromad.
The Office of Public Works said a site suitable for a replacement station had been identified and that the matter was now with the Chief State Solicitors Office.
