Gardaí are continuing to investigate the death of a 37-year-old man who died after he was shot in a residential area of north Dublin in the early hours of Sunday morning.

However, no arrests have yet been made in what was an apparent gangland-style killing.

It is believed he may have been lured to his death by his killer.

The victim, who was named yesterday as Derek Duffy, of Attracta Road in Cabra, was shot a number of times in the head at about 4am as he sat in the passenger seat of his car at Casement Park in Finglas.

One focus of the Garda investigation is on tracing the movements of the dead man's black Audi A4 car in the hours leading up to his death.

Gardaí were also continuing their efforts to locate a silver saloon car which was seen in the Casement Park area at the time of the attack.

Mr Duffy was known to gardaí and was unemployed.

There were unconfirmed reports that the attack was drugs-related.

After shooting him in the head, his attacker then tried to ignite the car by throwing a flammable liquid at it in an apparent effort to destroy any evidence.

Officers investigating the case are anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen the silver car, or the car in which Mr Duffy died, in the vicinity of Casement Park around the time of the attack.
