Gardaí are waiting to question the two boys who were in the stolen car that killed two gardaí on the Stillorgan dual carriageway early yesterday when it hit the Garda car.
The boys, who are being treated in St James’ Hospital, will not be questioned until they are released from hospital.
The gardaí died while trying to direct traffic out of the path of the stolen sports car which they knew was approaching at more than 100 miles an hour.
Garda Anthony Tighe (53), of Ranelagh, Dublin - married with a family of four, one of whom is serving as a garda in Kilmainham station in Dublin - and Garda Michael Padden, a 27-year-old single man from Belmullet, Co Mayo, were killed instantly in the collision. Both were attached to Donnybrook station.
The President, Mrs McAleese; the Minister for Justice, Mr O'Donoghue;and Opposition leaders have expressed sympathy to the families of the dead officers.
Gardaí say a gang of up to eight young people were involved in burglaries and car thefts before the crash.
An 18-year-old man appeared before Kilmainham court today charged in connection with a series of crimes, including burglary, that led to the deaths of the two Gardai.
Dane Fish, 18, also known as Dane Rice, from Dublin, and a 16-year-old juvenile were arrested after they abandoned a stolen car on the South Circular Road yesterday morning. Mr Fish was remanded in custody to appear at Clover Hill District Court on Friday.
The juvenile has since been released and a file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Neither was involved in the accident which killed the police officers.
