A photofit of the man gardaí believe abducted an eight-year-old girl in Westmeath on Tuesday is due to be released later today.
Mary Maughan, from Kildomney, Moate, was seen being bundled into a green car near her home by a man in his thirties shortly after 4 p.m. She was later found unhurt but deeply traumatised.
Gardaí in Moate told ireland.comtoday they were still interviewing people who may have witnessed the abduction and in particular one witness they believe may have seen the man.
Interviews with the girl herself have helped gardaí form a photofit of the man they believe responsible.
Mary is understood to have escaped from the man after he stopped to go to the toilet. She was found by a passing journalist from the Starnewspaper, searching with the girl's cousin.
Her mother, Ms Kathleen Maughan, said yesterday the man snatched her daughter after asking her for directions on the country lane, less than 200 yards from her home.
Gardaí are seeking a man - about five feet, four inches in height - who was driving a dark green saloon car with the letters OY in the registration.
He had short black hair, was clean-shaven and was wearing a blue top. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Garda at Athlone on 0902-92609 or the incident room at Moate Garda Station on 0902-81106.
