Gardaí treat fatal Clonmel fire as 'suspicious'

Gardaí have launched a investigation into the circumstances surrounding a man's death in Co Tipperary.

Gardaí have launched a investigation into the circumstances surrounding a man's death in Co Tipperary.

Emergency services were called to a house in Clonmel after a fire was detected at around 5.30 a.m. The man was taken from the  house in Haywood Close but was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been named as Fergus Roche, 30, a father of one from Haywood Close in Clonmel.

Gardaí are treating the death as suspicious and have appealed for any witnesses who may have been in the area last night to come forward.

Gardaí said it was not clear if anyone else was in the house at the time the fire started. The scene has been sealed off for technical examination.

A post mortem examination is being carried out this evening to determine the cause of death.
