Gardaí in Cork were yesterday treating as suspicious the death of a 27-year-old mother of three whose body was found by her seven-year-old daughter at her home in Knocknaheeny on the north side of the city.
Neighbours described Tina Greaney as a devoted mother who was "trying to do her best" for her children Taylor (7), Kelvin (6) and eight-month-old Jodie.
It is understood Ms Greaney's daughter Taylor, who only recently made her Communion, found her mother's body in the hallway of their home in Killiney Heights, Knocknaheeny, shortly before 10am yesterday.
The child rushed to the home of her grandmother who lives in the locality and the alarm was raised. The Greaney house was sealed off and preserved pending the arrival of the Garda forensics team yesterday.
Gardaí were keeping an open mind on the death yesterday, and were awaiting postmortem results to determine their next course of action.
However, they were examining the possibility that Ms Greaney could have died as a result of a fall down her stairs.
Shocked friends arrived at the scene yesterday with floral tributes to the dead woman.
One neighbour, Margaret McSweeney, said she was finding it hard to believe that the vibrant mother of three had passed away in such tragic circumstances.
"We are just in shock. We are all too upset to talk really. It is on our doorstep.
"How could it happen? She was so quiet. She just kept herself to herself."
A close friend of the dead woman's, who declined to be named, said Ms Greaney was just an ordinary girl "trying to put one foot in front of the other".
"Tina has a great big heart and a great big smile. She loved her kids and took great pride in them and always made sure they were taken care of.
"She was very friendly - a beautiful person really. I can't believe she is gone like this."
Gardaí were yesterday carrying out house-to-house inquiries in relation to the death.
Ms Greaney's body remained at the scene yesterday evening awaiting the arrival of the State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy.
