The Parades Commission last night ordered a rally on Saturday headed by the Rev Ian Paisley to stay away from Garvaghy Road in Portadown, Co Armagh - focal point of last month's Drumcree standoff.

The Mid-Ulster Independent Loyal Order Institution was told to keep out of a Protestant area at the bottom end of the Catholic estate. Another attempt by the Orange Order to parade beyond the Drumcree church into the same estate on Sunday was banned.

The commission has also banned senior members of the Orange Order from parading in nationalist Dunloy, Co Antrim, on Saturday. And a parade by the Catholic Ancient Order of Hibernians in Kilkeel, Co Down, has been diverted from a loyalist area.
