Madrid - Operation Temple, one of the most successful anti-drug operations ever carried out in Spain, yesterday yielded a further five tonnes of pure cocaine near A Coruna in northern Spain, Jane Walker reports.
This follows the 10 tonnes seized in mid-Atlantic at the beginning of the week on a St. Vincent and Grenadines registered trawler Tammsaare, the arrest of its crew of 16 Russians and Belarussians - one of whom died during an epilepsy attack - and the detention of 41 other suspects in Galicia, Las Palmas, Alicante and Madrid.
Judge Baltasar Garzon, also responsible for the extradition demand on Gen Pinochet, interrogating the detainees. It was information received during this questioning that led the police to the five tonnes hidden in the basement of a house in Galicia.
