Athletics: Disgraced sprinter Justin Gatlin is facing the prospect of a lifetime ban from his sport after confirmation that his 'B' sample has also tested positive for the banned steroid testosterone.
World Anti-Doping Agency chairman Dick Pound and Gatlin's lawyer Cameron Myler both said the joint 100metres world record holder had received the results of his second sample and that it was positive.
Gatlin, who shares the record of 9.77 seconds with Jamaican Asafa Powell, will now learn his fate before a United States Anti-Doping Agency hearing.
The 24-year-old also failed a test in 2001, when amphetamines from a prescribed medicine resulted in a two-year suspension, albeit one which was reduced on appeal.
But the Agency's 'two strikes and you're out' policy means a second offence could result in Gatlin's career grinding to a permanent halt.
The news will come as a hammer blow to the sport which was already reeling from the Balco affair, which resulted in bans for Tim Montgomery, Dwain Chambers, Kelli White and Chryste Gaines.
