GAA:Former Dublin under-21 manager Jim Gavin has been named as Pat Gilroy's successor after being ratified by the county board on a three-year deal this evening, while Anthony Daly will lead the hurlers for a fifth year.
Gavin was the frontrunner for the senior football job after a successful four -year spell with the underage side in which reached three finals and won two All-Ireland titles - against Donegal in the 2010 decider and Roscommon this season.
The Clondalkin man from the Round Towers club was also an All-Ireland winner as a player with the Dubs in 1995.
He will head straight into the 2013 season in search of the title Dublin relinquished this year when they were knocked out of the championship last month by Mayo. Gilroy, the man responsible for bridging the 17-year gap, stepped down after that semi-final defeat.
Gavin, whose coaching team is yet to be confirmed, was unanimously ratified tonight after the board did not put forward another candidate.
John McEvoy and Vincent Teehan will not be rejoining the hurling set-up for Daly’s fifth year in charge. However, Richie Stakelum and Ciaran Hetherton remain on the ticket.
