Islamabad - Pakistan's President, Gen Pervez Musharraf, yesterday said the Indo-Pakistan peace process could not be stopped as long as Kashmir was recognised as the core issue.

The general said his most "vivid observation" from his trip to India last week was the people's "desire and yearning" for peace.

However, India later rebuffed Gen Musharraf's remarks, rejecting that Kashmir was disputed territory. Gen Musharraf and the Indian Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, had met in Agra last Sunday and Monday, in the first top-level talks in more than two years.
