Leading jockey Barry Geraghty was in the wars again at Punchestown this evening when he broke a bone in his left hand in a fall.

It was his first day back race-riding after a near-four-week break following a broken right thumb suffered in a fall on the first day of the new season at Gowran at the beginning of the month.

Geraghty sustained his latest injury when Elbows Maguinness, trained by  Michael Hourigan, fell at the second fence in the Panda Waste Novice Chase.

It was only his second ride of the day, his first Laoch Dubh having finished unplaced in the opening hurdle race.
