THE German authorities were not opposing bail for Ms Roisin McAliskey, the deputy leader of Fianna Fail, Ms Mary O'Rourke, said last night, writes Geraldine Kennedy.
Speaking after a meeting with the German ambassador in Dublin, she said that the ambassador had insisted that the German authorities had not sought to oppose bail. Their authorities had no power to do so and their opinion had not been sought.
Ms O'Rourke, who attended Ms McAliskey's bail hearing with a party colleague, Mr Eamon O Cuiv TD, during the week, said that the British authorities had told magistrates that the Germans were opposed to bail.
