Trains have been disrupted in South Wales after a giant Ronald McDonald blew on to the line.

The inflatable blew away from a McDonald's restaurant in Newport West and onto nearby train lines.

All trains travelling via Newport were briefly disrupted including First Great Western and Virgin, as well as local services.

Railtrack officials checked the line, gave the all clear after 15 minutes and services quickly returned to normal.

A Railtrack spokeswoman said: "McDonald's phoned us up to tell us about the inflatable which was very responsible of them.

"We checked the line but couldn't see anything and can only presume it blew off again and ended up somewhere else."

There is no indication yet as to the current location of the restaurant mascot. PA
