The hospital treating US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords said her condition has been upgraded from serious to good and she will be moved to a rehabilitation hospital today.
She will be transferred later this morning.
Ms Giffords was critically wounded when she was shot in the head outside an Arizona supermarket in an attack that also claimed the lives of six people and wounded 12.
The man suspected of carrying out the attack, Jared Lee Loughner, pleaded not guilty to federal charges of attempting to assassinate US representative Gabrielle Giffords and attempting to murder two of her staff members on Monday.
A college dropout, Mr Loughner made no comment as the plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.
