THE husband of the murder victim, Mrs Philomena Gillane, entered into fresh bail bonds yesterday at a special sitting of Galway District Court. This followed his failure to appear at a court hearing on Monday when a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Mr Patrick Gillane (34), of Glenbrack, Gort, Co Galway, who is charged with soliciting two men in January 1994 to murder his wife, signed a bond on his own surety of £2,000 and two independent sureties of £10,000 each.

The court was told the defendant had been too ill to attend court on Monday. Defending solicitor, Mr Colman Sherry, handed in a medical certificate completed by a doctor based in Gort.

Insp Padraic Rattigan, prosecuting, said the defendant had always appeared in court since being granted bail in the High Court last summer and had fulfilled bail conditions.
