Ireland’s Martha Gillen is out of the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship at Ashburnham in west Wales after a two-and-one defeat at the hands of England’s Rebecca Hudson.
Hudson, current English amateur champion and British Strokeplay champion, had to pull out all the stops to overcome Gillen on the 17th hole.
"I have had a few problems with my swing lately and have worked on it with my coach back home and had some help from a few other people as well," said Hudson, who celebrated her 23rd birthday yesterday.
She was briefly behind against Gillen but squared the match at the fifth and after that slowly asserted her authority.
Hudson now faces Germany's Denise Simon, while in the other semi-final Irish amateur champion Alison Coffey faces Australian Lindsey Wright.
