A 15-year-old girl remained in a critical condition in hospital last night after an assault in Castleknock in Dublin nine days ago.

Rebecca Kiely from Dublin was struck with a baseball bat during a fight between two men as she was standing near St Brigid's GAA club on the old Navan Road at about 9.30pm on Friday, November 10th.

A Garda spokeswoman said Ms Kiely appeared to have been struck with a baseball bat that was swung following "an argument" between two men.

"It wasn't that someone intended to beat a child up. It appears that there was some sort of altercation between two men, and it was a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time," she said.
