A seven-year-old schoolgirl was killed in a traffic accident in Finglas, Dublin, yesterday afternoon. Last night the gardai named the victim as Jodie Smyth.
She had been dropped off at Dunsink Drive outside her house at 3 p.m. by a school bus when the accident occurred. Although the full circumstances were not immediately clear, it is believed that after the girl had alighted from the minibus her clothing got caught in its door. She died after the bus moved off.
She was brought to Temple Street Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Gardai are investigating.
