A 15-year-old girl was killed in Cork yesterday afternoon after an accident involving a home-made sleigh.

The girl was part of a group tobogganing down a slope at Frankfield Golf Club in Cork city on a home-made sleigh.

The sleigh collided with a tree and the girl sustained serious head injuries. She was rushed to Cork University Hospital where attempts to resuscitate her failed. Three other teenagers, two boys aged 14 and 16, and a 14-year-old girl were also injured and brought to hospital. The girl and one of the boys are described as being in a stable condition this morning. The other boy has been discharged.

Superintendent Charlie Barry of Togher Garda station said an investigation was launched and a forensic review carried out. He said they were treating the incident as a tragic accident and extended his condolences to the girl's family.
