Speaking to a group of more than 400 students at University College Dublin, glamour model Claire Tully (24) said that "Ireland is still full of religious prudes and an anti-female attitude, something which the church has a lot to answer for".

Defending glamour modelling, the Trinity College Dublin graduate and Ireland's first page 3 girl said: "It's a voluntary profession, where everyone is over 18 and money can be made."

The model said Ireland had come a long way since the days of smuggled contraception, but an attitude of "What will the neighbours think?" still existed.

Also addressing the UCD Law Society debate entitled Glamour Modelling is the Scourge of Modern Ireland, nightclub owner Peter Stringfellow said that there was a huge fear of sex nowadays, with young people frightened to discuss the issue.
