Workers at the Irish Glass Bottle Company in Ringsend will today raise the closure of the plant and their severance terms at the AGM of the parent company Ardagh plc.

A number of employees who hold shares in Ardagh plc will take part in the meeting - while their workmates are expected to lobby shareholders outside the meeting in Ballsbridge at noon today.

"Just as Ardagh would seek to ensure that IGB's major creditors - like financial institutions - were looked after, we believe that they should also meet the debt of honour they owe to the 375 workers who have lost their jobs in the plant by ensuring that they receive a fair severance arrangement," said SIPTU branch secretary, Mr Gerry Lynch.

Earlier this month management at the company withdrew reservations about establishing a trust fund for employees as part of an agreement brokered by the Labour Court aimed at settling a three-week dispute over redundancy payments.

However, the dispute continues over management's rejection of the redundancy package proposed by the court.
