Limerick 4-20 Cork 1-27 (aet):Limerick and Cork played out one of the games of the year so far in the Munster under-21 hurling final but the Treaty County took the spoils in extra-time courtesy of a Declan Hannon goal.
It is Limerick’s first title at this level since 2002.
A glorious point from Aidan Walsh, his eighth from play, in the dying seconds took the teams to extra-time, after the Rebels reeled in a five-point deficit in the second half.
Cork made the better start in extra time with two points from Jamie Coughlan and another from Simon O'Brien, but Conor Allis lofted over a long ranger for Limerick and at the break Cork led 1-26 to 3-17.
They only got one more after the interval, however, as Hannon blasted past Darren McCarthy and Shane Dowling added a superb effort after brilliant control with the hurl in the air.
Limerick had a dream start with a superp goal inside 20 seconds by Graeme Mulcahy who swivelled past two defenders before rounding goalkeeper Darren McCarthy and with one hand on the hurl flicked to the net.
The sides swapped points and a couple of frees by Coughlan and a point from play by Michael O'Sullivan had them level, Limerick 1-1, Cork 0-4 after ten minutes.
Even at this early stage Walsh was causing major problems for the Limerick defence and Cian McNamara, in particular, and it was no surprise when James O'Brien replaced McNamara after sixteen minutes.
Walsh continued to pile on the torture and by halftime he had scored five points as Cork led by 0-12 to 1-7.
Five of Limerick's points were frees by Dowling with Mulcahy and midfielder Conor Allis getting the other Limerick points as his side led by 0-12 to 1-7.
Seven minutes from the end it was Limerick 3-12 to 1-18 and both scored twice more to take the tie to the additional 20 minutes, where Dowling borught his tally to eight and Hannon found the net.
