Mr James Gogarty's son told yesterday of his father's pride that he was vindicated in yesterday's Flood report.
Mr Eamon Gogarty said his 85-year-old father would be having a quiet drink last night to celebrate the report which found that payments made to Ray Burke were corrupt.
"My father is a private man and he has always been," he said. "Unfortunately there has been a very public aspect to something that he was caught up in.
"Today he is very happy. I am very happy. His family are very happy that it is finally - after 20 years - over.
"I spoke to him on the phone and he said that he was looking forward to seeing me and that we would sit down and have a drink and finally put it all behind him.
"A lot went on behind the scenes, a lot of nasty smears and attempts to destroy his character. A lot of misinformation was given and it is a credit to him and the people who stood by him that he has finally been totally vindicated on that. I am proud of him - proud that he had the strength to do it. And proud that he did it for the reasons he did it."
