Former Green Party TD Paul Gogarty’s new single has reached number five in an Irish download chart.

Performing as His Sweet Surprise, Mr Gogarty’s single Know You All My Life entered the 7digital download chart this week, behind Marina and the Diamonds, James Arthur, Adele and Kesha.

This is Mr Gogarty’s third single release and is available to download from iTunes and 7digital for 99cent. Download from both online stores count towards the official Irish music charts.

Despite his success on the 7digital charts, Mr Gogarty's single has not charted in the top 300 on iTunes. Although aware he is in the chart, Mr Gogarty is not sure how many downloads of his single there have been.

“The 7Digital charts seem to updated more regularly [than iTunes}, so there is more on an immediate effect. I’m trying to get the single out there on social media and to really make people aware of it,” he said.

“It will probably be short-lived if radios don’t start playing it, but it’s nice to be up there with the likes of Adele and James Arthur. It’s hard to get a song playing on the radio, but Ocean FM had it as their single of the day, which was great. I’m doing my best to get it played out there.”

Mr Gogarty has been singing and busking since he was young and wrote the song last year. He said it was inspired by how he met his wife.

“Anyone I have spoken to who has heard the song said has liked it. It’s one of the catchiest songs this year,” he said.

Mr Gogarty’s self-titled debut album will also be released next month. The album will include songs about love and relationships, as well as a song regarding Madonna’s drug references at a recent concert.

The 7digital online store is one of eight download websites that count towards the Irish charts.
