Sounds from a Safe Harbour Festival - Cork

Sounds From A Safe Harbour is a new festival of music, art and conversation at various locations in Cork city this weekend. The festival brings together over 450 artists at 70 events, in more than 30 venues over four days. Acts include The Gloaming, This Is How We Fly, Lisa Hannigan, Amiina, Julianna Barwick, Aaron Dessner, Valgeir Sigurðsson, Richard Reed Parry, My Brightest Diamond, So Percussion, Liam Byrne, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Donal Dineen and others.

Comeraghs Wild Festival - Waterford

The Comeraghs Wild Festival takes places in Waterford from the 1th to the 20th of September. This year the festival highlights include Ireland’s first canyoning expedition through a waterfall and An open-air, seated concert with Mary Black in the Curraghamore Estate in Portlaw, Co Waterford. Walks and talks, traditional music, live theatre high in the mountains, storytelling.

Shorelines Arts Festival - Portumna, Galway

The Shorelines Arts Festival takes place in Portumna, Co Galway this weekend and incorporates drama, music, poetry, art, film and more. Shorelines 2015 will feature readings by authors Joseph O’Connor and Paul Kingsnorth. They will be joined by poets Grace Wells and poet and writer John MacKenna who will both facilitate writing workshops in poetry and prose. Children will enjoy Dabbledoo music workshops, creative writing with Betsy Cornwell, a Flea Circus from PigNut productions, face painting and story telling.

Loughcrew autumn equinox festival - Meath

The Loughcrew autumn equinox festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday at the 5,500 year old Loughcrew cairns in Oldcastle, Co Meath. Visitors are invired to relive the ancient ways of bidding farewell to the light as the darkness of winter returns to the land. The new purpose-built Loughcrew megalithic centre will host a range of spiritual activities including seminars, meditation, workshops, healing, yoga and guided walks. Dawn ceremonies will start from 6am with events to follow. All events are free and donations are accepted for festival and artist expenses.

Clonakilty Guitar Festival

The Clonakilty international guitar festival takes place from Friday until Sunday. 90 per cent of the events are free over the majority of the weekend with only four shows requring tickets. In addition to concerts, there are classes and seminars from some of the world’s best performers and experts such as the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra and Steve Cooney. The weekend will see the arrival of Music Generation Limerick’s ‘Express’ bus, a double decker commuter bus retro-fitted to be a mobile venue, recording studio and workshop space.

Go Wild in Clarinbridge

Free nature events are taking place in the Co Galway village all day Saturday. One of the highlights is a guided walk in the Cow Park, a medieval meadowland, with naturalist Gordon D’Arcy. Other events include a “wild tea party” and an indoor picnic at the parish hall. There will also be a talk on the “twelve trees of Clarinbridge” and the folklore of the local area.
