The destiny of the Men's Amateur Home International title at Royal St David's, Harlech still hung in the balance today after the second session of foursomes matches with any of the four nations still capable of clinching the crown.

England - chasing their ninth title in 10 years - bounced back from a shock defeat by Wales yesterday to overcome Scotland 3-2 in the foursomes while Wales and Ireland shared the honours two matches apiece with one halved.

England looked as though they would establish a 4-1 advantage when Gary Wolstenholme and Jamie Elson had their noses in front of David Inglis and Jamie McLeary approaching the home stretch with the situation 3-1 in favour of the defending champions.

But Inglis and McLeary fought back to level and then edged ahead when Wolstenholme and Elson failed to make par at the 17th. Halves at the last got the Scots home.

Wales should have taken a lead with them into lunch but David Price missed a putt of just four feet on the home green which meant he and Lee Harpin could only halve with the Noel Fox and Andrew McCormick.
