Olympics - Sailing: Timothy Goodbody was the first of Ireland's Olympic sailors to take to the race course off Qingdao today as the venue lived up to its pre-event billing of light airs and strong tides.
The Delgany, Co. Wicklow first-timer is in 20th place out of 26 boats in the Finn single-handed class following a mixed score of 19th and 13th in the first two of eleven races in the series.
The easterly wind never exceeded six knots in either race and while Goodbody climbed to seventh overall at one stage in the second of the hour-long races, it was Poland's Rafal Szukiel that emerged overall leader after day one.
Britain's double-Gold medallist Ben Ainslie is in third place despite a win in race two following a shock tenth place in the opening race.
