Defending champion Retief Goosen carded a four-under-par 66 to tie Bart Bryant for the lead after the second round of the Tour Championship.
Bryant, who shot a course record 62 in the first round, threatened to run away from the field when he birdied two of the first three holes in his second round.
However, he was only even par for the rest of the round in a light breeze at East Lake, opening the door for two-time US Open champion Goosen to grab a share of the lead.
Bryant and Goosen are at 10-under 130, three strokes clear of Tiger Woods, Ben Crane and Scott Verplank, with Tim Clark four behind.
Woods, who by his own admission is struggling with his swing, was all over the place, finding just three fairways, but his short game was as strong as ever, and a 67 left him very much in the hunt.
"I have played the par-fives in even par," he lamented. "It's frustrating, because if I take care of the par-fives, I think I would be at the top of the board."
Ireland's Padraig Harrington had five birdies in a four-under-par 66 and is tied for ninth with Olin Browne and England's Luke Donald, who matched Harrington's five birdies in a 67.
