South African Retief Goosen continued his recent run of success by winning the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond this evening.

Just four weeks after becoming 2001 US Open champion, Goosen fired a final round 71 for a 16-under-par aggregate total of 268, taking the title by three strokes from Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, who shot a 67 on Sunday.

Ireland's Paul McGinley boosted his hopes of a Ryder Cup spot, finishing tied for third with, Australian Adam Scott, American John Daly and Englishman Barry Lane and taking home a substantial cheque for Stg£104,000.

Darren Clarke, winner of the European Open at the K-Club last week, was a stroke back in seventh on 11-under following a final round of 69.

Goosen, leading by three shots overnight, birdied two of the first six holes this morning to extend his advantage and, after a run of seven straight pars on the back nine, he could afford to bogey the last two holes.

McGinley also dropped a shot at the 18th to miss adding valuable Ryder Cup points, but Lane and Scott earned exemptions into the British Open, which starts on Thursday at Royal Lytham and St Anne's.

The round of the day belonged to Belfast amateur Michael Hoey who carded a superb 64 to finish the tournament on 7-under par.

Sergio Garcia finished at six-under-par, Jose Maria Olazabal at five-under, Colin Montgomerie four-under, and Nick Faldo, three times British Open champion, at two-under.
