The Motherwell Football Club and former Rangers goalkeeper, Andy Goram, has denied any links with Northern Ireland extremists. In a statement after a picture purportedly showing him holding up an Ulster Volunteer Force flag appeared in newspapers, he said: "I do not condone violence and I whole-heartedly support the current peace process in Northern Ireland.
"I deny all the implications in these recent articles and am taking legal action against the newspapers concerned and the individuals who supplied this incorrect information."
Mr John Boyle, chairman of the Scottish Premier League club, said the player would be staying at Motherwell. "We have spoken to Andy Goram and he assured us that he has been seriously maligned and misrepresented and that he is taking legal action."
