US Vice-President Al Gore has called on the British government to implement fully the Patten Commission recommendations on the reform of the RUC. He said "Northern Ireland will remain high on my foreign policy agenda".
Mr Gore has also said he is committed to finding a solution to the plight of a number of former IRA members living in the US who are under threat of extradition or deportation.
The statement comes in response to criticism by Irish-American supporters that the section on Northern Ireland in the Democratic Convention policy document was too weak.
