Government pledges funds for 110 more schools

The Department of Education has added 110 primary and post-primary schools to its list of planned refurbishment projects.

The Department of Education has added 110 primary and post-primary schools to its list of planned refurbishment projects.

The list, published yesterday evening on the Department's website, coincided with huge pressure on the Government over alleged broken promises to schools prior to last year's General Election.

A Department spokesman said the timing of the publication of the names was "purely coincidental" and had been planned for some time.

He said there will be no additional money made available. A contingency fund of around €11 million is earmarked to cover the cost of the refurbishments.
