The Government has been accused of being “short on action” after the latest fatal shooing by Dublin’s feuding gangland criminals.
The killing of a 27-year-old man in Tallaght has been linked to a feud between rival drug gangs in the Crumlin and Drimnagh suburbs of Dublin. It is the 11th murder in the feud since 2000, and the eighth gangland murder in Dublin so far this year.
Fine Gael Justice Spokesperson, Charlie Flanagan said Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern was “long on words but short on action” and called on the Government to launch a crackdown on criminals and introduce a 25-year sentence for murder.
“With gangland murders happening at a rate of one every nine days it is clear the Government's impotence is allowing criminals to operate with a sense of impunity,” said Mr Flanagan.
"I commend the Gardai for already making arrests in the case of the Tallaght shooting… However, it is deeply frustrating that criminals have every chance of getting away with it. Just seven homicide convictions in relation to the 94 gangland murders since 1999 is grim evidence of that.”
