The Government today announced a review of the pre-school childcare regulations.
Making the announcement at the National Children's Nurseries Association’s Autumn Conference, the Minister of State for Children, Ms Mary Hanafin, said: "The implementation of the regulations has made a significant contribution so far to the development of a better quality of childcare for our pre-school children,"
She said it was now time to examine the regulations to assess its success and what is needed to strengthen it.
The review of Child Care (Pre-School Services) Regulations, 1996 is expected to take about a year to complete.
It will be carried out by an expert group made-up of representatives of a number of Government departments, voluntary childcare organisations, the National Children's Office and a parent.
