Governments may meet NI parties

THE Anglo Irish liaison group of senior civil servants is to hold its first meeting of the new year in Dublin tomorrow

THE Anglo Irish liaison group of senior civil servants is to hold its first meeting of the new year in Dublin tomorrow. The meeting is expected to discuss possible arrangements for meetings involving representatives of both governments and parties connected with Northern Ireland.

A trilateral meeting of the two governments with the Alliance Party has already taken place. Sources said the possibility of a meeting involving the two governments as well as the SDLP and Sinn Fein could not be ruled out.

The difficulties created for the peace process by the recent spate of killings is also likely to be discussed by the liaison group.

Members of the International Body on Decommissioning are due to pay return visits to Belfast and Dublin shortly, but a spokeswoman said the dates had not yet been set.
