FBI agents are hunting thieves who stole a $1 million Goya painting while it was being transported from Ohio to New York's Guggenheim Museum.
The 1778 painting of Children with a Cartby Spanish artist Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, was stolen sometime last week while being transported through Scranton, Pennsylvania, said the Guggenheim and the Toledo Museum of Art.
The FBI is leading the investigation into the theft of the painting, which is part of a collection of the Toledo museum and was insured for just over $1 million, the museums said in a statement released on Monday.
The statement contained no further detail.
The insurers of the painting -- which was due to be part of an exhibition of Spanish paintings opening at the Guggenheim on Friday -- have offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to its recovery.
