The GPA confirmed this evening that it has been in informal talks with the GAA during the last week over the issue of official recognition.
In a statement released after a meeting of the GPA’s national executive committee, it said: “The GPA can confirm that informal discussions between the GPA and the GAA have taken place over the past few days and we will be outlining our position in relation to these meetings in due course.
“The GPA will be making no further comment in the interim.”
Last week, the GPA rejected the GAA’s offer of formal recognition, albeit without the five per cent of the association’s annual revenue it had sought.
The GAA said at the time that it would provide the GPA with administrative costs and office space, and deal with any further funding requested on a case by case basis.
The GPA has not confirmed whether or not it will continue its boycott of television interviews, as carried out at last Sunday’s two provincial finals, preferring instead to “keep people guessing”.
