Building materials supplier Grafton said today first-quarter growth has been positive, with turnover in both Ireland and Britain in line with expectations and ahead of last year.
The group, which also owns the Woodie's chain of DIY stores, acknowledged a slowing of the Irish economy from recent levels but said demand in the economy remained strong.
Grafton also announced two new Woodie's stores will be opened - one in Tralee in autumn 2001 and one in Newbridge in spring 2002.
Grafton's British-based businesses, which account for almost half the group's profit, will be a major source of growth in the future, as the merchanting market consolidates and acquisition integration benefits come through, the company said.
