A British woman killed after an explosion in her car in Athens was carrying a bomb, Greek police said.
Authorities in Athens have identified the woman as 49-year-old Ms Susan-Mary Arris, born in London. Police said an initial examination indicated she had been a close friend of a Greek family accused of involvement in organised crime.
They have ruled out suicide or her being the target of an attack.
Ms Arris had been wearing black gloves and her ears had been blocked by cotton wool, said the head of the Athens security police, Mr Giorgos Angelakos.
An explosive device had been placed underneath the handbrake and a remote control was also found in a bag in the car, he said.
Officers said they believed the woman had intended to plant the bomb, which apparently exploded accidentally as she stopped the car to check the device. The intended target of the bomb was not clear.
